New Post: Unanswered Questions at the Parole Commission…

“Your efforts create a situation where a low-risk population uses programming space, attention, and resources that could be going to support the re-entry of higher risk people, which has a net-negative impact on public safety, because those unsupported higher-risk people are far more likely to harm their communities. Why are you conducting your office in a way that ultimately makes communities less safe?”

““Police put people in prison," says Tai. "They are the frontline to the issue and the problems of mass incarceration, especially here in Wisconsin. Understanding that police are racist and their policies informs our understanding of the DOC’s racism as well.”

“We feel and have always felt that Black Lives Matter, including those that are currently incarcerated," says Tai. "Defunding the police would be a big step towards closing and emptying our prisons.””

New article out covering a demo a few weeks back when some of our volunteers went up to collaborate with some Madison based abolitionists to oppose the Joint Finance Committee’s Budget Proposal.

“Defunding the police and DOC

During the June 10 protest, Tai, a contributor to Abolish MKE and member of MKE Lit Supply, handed out flyers with the demands and water bottles to the small crowd. During an interview afterwards, Tai said that although policing and prisons are deeply intertwined, public pressure for police reform and abolition over the last year hasn't always translated into support for similar changes to incarceration.”

Tabling outside the post office—it’s getting pricey, but we don’t quit. Random folks going in to mail packages are mostly more than willing to send off some literature to prisoners!

They tried to tell us we’re not allowed to table out here, but fuck them, we don’t listen to the man!

(also, city ordinance is on our side 🤪)

Libraries have been shut down and removed from units in Racine Correctional.

Guards and DOC don’t want prisoners reading and learning, they just want their minds to stagnate, the way that they are making their bodies stagnant.

Lots happened on both the state and local level in the last few weeks. Too much for us to really keep up with.

-joint finance shot down prison reform, but also expanded the DOC budget and buildings less than Evers had proposed.
-the snitch house bill and other fake police reforms went to gov Evers desk and he said he would sign them.
-the county board’s finance committee agreed with sending $300,000 of mental health money to the sheriff’s office, but rejected their overspending report.

Despite being kicked out of the office where we were…..able to…..print for free— we got a lot of printing and packing done today!

New Post, from GBCI:

“He walked off and came back 30 minutes later with a seg nurse who don’t care about inmates and she say “you want to sign your refusal” “and he say “I didn’t refuse I need a wheelchair.” The officers say “you can walk. Do not getting a wheelchair.” He tried to explain what’s going on with his health but she say “I’m not here to talk about health issues.” Then they walked off. At breakfast time they found the guy in his cell dead”

We've updated the format of our catalog so that it is "imposed" (since I'm not the person who does that, i don't really know what that means, but apparently now you should be able to just open it and hit print [print on both sides])

Feel free to distro it to anyone you know who's incarcerated behind enemy lines. Also, If you've got some ideas for things we could add to the catalog we're always looking for new stuff—particularly anything written by prisoners or about prison abolition/prisoner resistance!

We are going to be overhauling the catalog at some point to scale back the anarchist stuff, this way we can include a section of @abolishmke articles as well as a section for @thefinalstrawradio podcast transcriptions!

Anyways, here's the catalog:
